Bargain Baby Room

A while back one of my friends down here gave me this baby book. It is so cute and as you page through it there are all kinds of animals and trees. So I took my inspiration from that and created this wall hanging:
I took one large piece of background fabric(yellow) and cut out pieces for the trees, bird, etc. I then zig zag stitched them onto the yellow fabric. I used the trim pieces that I had used in our old house from the wall hanging I had in our living room to frame it.

I bought this "wish" sign at our Navy exchange on clearance for $1.97. It was dark blue so I painted it brown.
I have a very comfy chair in the babies room from Ikea that I plan to nurse in during the night. I needed a small lamp to provide a little light but I really didn't want to spend much. I was at Baby's R Us one day and found this lamp shade for $2.90 (regular $15.99). Just needed a lamp to go with it. I found the lamp at Target on clearance for $7.48 (regular $29.99!!) I took off the cowboy lampshade it came with and replaced it with my bargain one! Love it!

Another Baby's R Us clearance find. A changing table organizer for $4.98 (regular $15.99)!
And lastly I found this little valance on clearance for $1.90 (regular $19.99)! I have been so excited about finding these bargains! You can kind of see the paint color I painted one wall in the picture above. It is called April Mist. It's a bluish green color. I have Lane's old crib bedding on the crib for now. If we have a girl I will be getting a skirt and bumper that is brown with white polka dots on it. I think this is all I will do before the baby is born. I have plans to spell it's name on the wall using something (??) and I do want to make a pillow for the chair using the same fabric that I used on the wall hanging. Now all I need is a baby!!

A knitting project and then some!

Here's a little strawberry hat I knitted. I will use it for my baby (if it's a girl) or send it on up to my sister Michele for her new little bundle. Actually it turned out a little small so it may need to be sent up to her either way because her baby isn't due til October and she'll need a warm hat then. Anyway, I had run across the pattern and thought it was so cute I had to make.

So on to other news. I had a doctors appt today. Quite eventful really. The baby's heartbeat was a fast and a little erratic so they sent me to Labor and Delivery to have it monitored for a bit. It turned out to be fine and the heart rate went back to normal. She did an ultrasound to measure how big the baby is so I got to see it again. And I was barely even tempted to find out what it is, I mean I've waited this long! It's hand was up by it's face the whole time so we didn't get a good look at it's face. The baby seems to be right around 6 lbs. So quite a bit smaller than Lane was it seems. I am dilated to a 2 and 70% effaced. So I don't know that I will make it to my scheduled c-section on Aug. 12th (yes Lesha, it was scheduled today for your birthday!) So things are moving along now and so time to get some last minute things done...like pick out a name (uh um Reese), pack my bag, you know just the last minute little details :)

Meet Bubbles

Here he is! Lane's new pet fish Bubbles! He picked out the name, very fitting I think. We just recently fish sat for some friends who went on vacation. Their beta's name was Marty. Lane loved Marty and he was such a good eater, so Lane had a lot of fun feeding him. So they paid him a little for taking care of Marty and the next day Lane and I took his money down to Petco and got Bubbles. Bubbles does not like to eat. I think he needs to get used to the food we got him which I read takes around 3 days. That is Lane's favorite part about having a fish is feeding it. I mean really that's about all you can do with it :) So hopefully he will start eating soon.

Sports Camp

Last week Lane got to go to a Sports Camp! It was every morning for 3 hours. He had lots of fun once he got over the first day jitters. They played soccer, basketball, and baseball. He did not know any of the kids there so he made some new friends too. He had fun and I got to buy everything I needed for baby! So I am feeling a little more prepared now!
Lane getting his Skyhawks shirt!
The last day showing off his certificate for participating!

Ahhhh....Restful

That is what I what I would call this room...Restful. It not only is the name of the paint color but also the feeling I have when I am in our bedroom. We finally got our new bedroom furniture about 1 month ago. We have been married 8 years and we have never had a headboard/footboard or anything that matches. I love our new bedding. I got the comforter at Target for almost $30 off just because someone had returned it out of the packaging. Nothing wrong with it, just not in the original package. Now, the bed is huge. I worry a little bit about getting up on it after my c-section, I am thinking step stool. Not only is it high it is also bulky. So it's a little big for the room, but I am growing to like it that way. Not bad for military housing, eh.

Lane's Swimming Lessons

This is Lane at his swimming lessons. He did REALLY well.... when I could actually get him there! It's been a stressful 2 weeks with him. It was M-F for 2 weeks. He did great the first day, the next 2 days he wouldn't get in the pool. Then Reese came home for 3 of the days and he went no problem. As soon as Reese left on Tuesday morning he wouldn't go again. Finally I got him to go yesterday on the very last day. He ended up going 5 out of the 10 days. The days he went he loved it. He's not scared at all, I think it was more of a control issue than anything. So needless to say I am glad it's over. Next time I will sign him up during a time when Reese will be around to take him on the weekends (whenever that might be??). Anyway just had to vent a little! The video at the bottom is the very last day. He used to only go underwater if he was plugging his nose. He now knows how to hold his breath and blow bubbles and put his face under the water to swim. He does front floats and back floats and jumps of the side of the pool and goes under water. These are all new things for him, so we accomplished something!

Disneyland

Lane still loves Lightning McQueen!
Our little pirate
July 4th, 2009

So Reese had a few days off for the fourth of July, so we went up to Disneyland for the weekend. Yes, I am a little crazy walking around Disneyland for 3 days with only 6 weeks left in my pregnancy. I was quite sore, but it was a fun time. This is the third year in a row that we've had a picture of us and Mickey Mouse. Kind of fun to look back and see Lane. He was so little that first year! We got to see the fireworks on the fourth. That was really cool, they put on quite the show. We also went over the California Adventure. Soarin' over California is awesome and so is the Aladdin show! Since I am huge and pregnant we did a lot of different things than we normally do. Shows and rides that "preggos" can go on were on the agenda. Although it was a little hard on me, it was worthit, one last little get away as a family of 3!!
