16 weeks

What a difference 4 weeks can make! I feel big for 16 weeks, but I am glad that I look pregnant now. I am feeling better, but I am very tired still and my body is usually very sore. At my doctor appt last week everything looked and sounded great.
Over the weekend Lane and I got to meet my new friend Kristen and her family who live a couple of hours away. We met through email after Case died when she got in touch with my sister Michele and I. It was great to spend some time with them in person. Lane had so much fun with her girls (above). Kristen and I talked alot of the day about our kids, Case, God, my journey, and when she could get a word in, about her life :) Kristen is a very empathetic person, very caring, and not afraid to ask me how I am. I appreciate people like her so much, people who want to know how I am doing, not avoiding the topic of Case. The fact is, I like to talk about Case and if I cry that's okay, don't be afraid if I cry. Honestly... it does not help me if you avoid me or talking with me about Case, it hurts me. Yes, I have run into both, people who avoid me all together or people who even quickly change the subject if I bring Case up. That is why I am so thankful for people like Kristen (who was a stranger before Case died), for my friends that call or email to check up on me. Thank you.

On a lighter note, Lane and I watched Shrek 4 the other day. There is an ogre on there that runs a chimichanga cart. Lane thought it was hilarious and a good idea I guess because he wanted to build a cart of his own. So we got the wagon out, used some wood, made a sign, and got some fruit snacks on it. He wheeled it down to his friend Daniel's house to give him some free fruit snacks. His imagination is great! He keeps my spirits up and entertains me most of the day with all his big ideas and stories.

Thankful for Lane

Lane had his last t-ball game yesterday. He got two great hits not off the the tee, but pitched to him!
The HIGHLIGHT of the whole t-ball season was getting the trophy yesterday!
He got home and began polishing it! Like father like son. Reese has always enjoyed polishing his boots, his wheels on his Jeep, and cleaning his rifles.
Speaking of daddy, he got Lane some cammies! He put them on as soon as he got them, took them off to sleep and wore them all day today too!

I am so thankful for Lane. I have so enjoyed watching him grow up and all the funny things he has done. Yesterday I watched him play outside by himself, imagining he was in the navy. He was doing the funniest things and I just sat there with a smile on my face watching him. This little boy and I have a bond that I am so thankful for. We have been through a lot together and although he doesn't realize it now, he has taught me alot. Watching him makes me wonder about all the things Case would have done. Watching your kids grow is the greatest gift that a mom can ever receive, it is priceless.

I am also thankful today because I am finally done with my online classes! I finished my last final this evening and boy does that feel good! We are now looking forward to doing some fun things week, including going to see Shrek. I know Lane is going to appreciate my extra attention. I am also thankful for continued healing and that I get to hear this little one's heartbeat tomorrow which is always so exciting. I ask you to pray for healing, that I would feel better and have more energy soon and for safety for our little family.

28 years, 6 Mother's Days, 12 weeks

This has been a hard week. One of changes and new adjustments (most of you know what that is), and also some special days. I recently turned 28. I am praying that 28 will be a year that brings hope, healing, and growth. This is my 6th Mother's Day. This is the first Mother's Day as a mom who has lost a child. At 28 years old that is very strange to me, although I am sure that is strange at any age. Being a mommy has taken on a different meaning to me now. It was always special, but now, it's special in a different way. This is my 10th Mother's Day without my mom. She is so missed.

This Mother's Day I also have reason to celebrate, I am 12 weeks pregnant. God blessed us with a new little miracle so soon after Case died. It's hard to grasp it all some days, but the moment I saw this baby at my ultrasound, it was real. There are so many feelings, emotions and fears that I have right now. Excited, yet afraid. So happy, yet so sad. I thank God for our new little blessing, our third child. Lane is very excited to have another baby, he say's he won't be alone anymore :( I am due November 16th. I ask you to pray for our family. Reese, Lane, this baby, me. God has a lot of work to do in me in these next 6 months to prepare me to be mommy to another baby. Please pray that He will do that and that I will allow Him to work.

Excuse the crooked picture. My photographer is five.

Reminders of Him

This past month I've been a little absent on here. We have had family come and visit and we've been enjoying our time we have with Reese. I've had this post in my head for awhile. Just to write it out is healing yet it takes a lot... these pictures are very personal and special to me.

This is the chair in Case's room. I fed him here and did a lot of snuggling with him in this chair. This chair is now a place where every morning I have my coffee and meet God. I pray, I read, I journal. This has been a healing chair for me, one that is full of tears as well as memories.
This is Case's dresser. It is full, full of 6/9 month clothes. The week before he died I had taken out all the 3/6 month clothes and replaced them with these. Some still have the tags on.
These are Case's diapers. Size 3.
The hospital made these tiles for us. I treasure these last footprints and handprint I have of my sweet little guy.
His laundry. I have yet to wash it. It's been such a reminder of how very real and here he was. These were the last clothes he wore, I look at them and remember where we went when he wore them. How do I wash these?
I made this for Case's room last fall. It is Hannah's Prayer. I did pray for Case. We waited so long to have him. He was so welcome in our family, we waited for him and he had made our little family feel complete for the time he was here. God granted what I asked of Him, even though Case was only here for a short time, he blessed us for a lifetime.
I made these letters for Case's room last fall too. I love his name. We had a hard time choosing a name for him, but once he was born he was Case. I never thought twice about his name after he was born and I LOVED his name.

When we were still at the hospital I said to one of the nurses, how am I supposed to go home and see all of his things and go in his room? I was afraid of the emotions that they would bring. I got home and I took comfort in those things. I still take comfort in sitting in his room. I thought it would be a very sad place, that is where I found him. In the weeks after his death I realized that for me that may be a very sad and scary place. That was the most scared and helpless I have ever felt. But I don't need to think of his room that way. For Case, that was the place where he was met and carried into heaven. I don't know if Jesus took him by the hand or if it was an angel, but I do know that it wasn't a scary thing for him. It was peaceful and when he got to heaven there was rejoicing. That is why I take comfort there. I believe that God meets me there everyday, renews my strength, hope and courage to keep going. This is very personal to me, but it is so very real, and that is why I share.

Easter Getaway

This weekend we took off to Palm Springs and spent two nights there. Lane loves climbing around in Joshua Tree National Park and swimming so we took him to do both. Saturday we went up into the park and stopped off in 29 Palms where Lane was born. We only stayed there long enough to get cash out and some snacks and off we went up into the park. I was hoping that the park would be blooming. It was a little bit. Most of the Joshua Trees were blooming which is a big thing up there! We let Lane jump around on the big jumbo rocks and then we hiked to Barker Dam, which had quite a bit of water in it. Later that day we went swimming and today we went up the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway for lunch and a great view of the Coachella Valley before coming back home.

Lane loves to swim.

We came back and Lane did a little egg hunt by himself. Nothing like a lone egg hunt, but he had fun finding ALL the eggs.

I knew that Easter was going to be a hard day for me. That's one reason why we did our little trip. Easter has taken on a new meaning to me. I know the pain of seeing my own son die, I understand so much more what a sacrifice it was for God to send his own Son to die for us. Never has the meaning of Easter been more real to me.
March 25th marked 9 years since my mom died. Another hard day, but different now. Over the years I have become so thankful for my mom. She taught me so much. She was an amazing Christian influence in my life. The thing I am most thankful for recently is that she taught me how to be a good wife and mom. I am so thankful that Case has her and she has Case in heaven, although honestly, I'd rather have them both here. At one point after Case died I had a very real image in my mind of my mom running as fast as she could to the gates of heaven to sweep Case up into her arms when he got there. It brings me to tears everytime I think of it.

The last couple weeks, I have grown impatient with my grief. They say that happens. I know that it will never go away and that I won't feel better for a long time, but I am tired of feeling sad. I used to be a productive person, now I can't seem to get much done. I used to feel happy and sometimes I do, but not without an underlying sadness. It's normal to feel this way, I know, but I am tired of it.

I hope everyone had a good Easter. What a wonderful gift we've been given, hope, forgiveness, grace. I will not squander that away, I will be thankful for Jesus' life and death and resurrection. Because of His sacrifice, I have the hope that I will one day see my sweet boy again.

I'm Still Here

Yep, I am still here just a little lacking in the blog department. Last week we got back from WA. Reese's brother Mason and his new wife Amanda got married on the 13th. Reese was a groomsman and Lane was the ring bearer. He was so cute as you can see in the pictures. We got there the Tuesday before the wedding and on Wednesday Lane ran into one of Lesha's countertops, cut his eye, and by the next day he had his very first shiner! Just in time for the wedding. Isn't that how it goes though? I thought it made him even cuter, such a boy. As you can tell by the pictures he had his hands in his pockets much of the time. It was good to be up there for a week and see our family and friends. It was good to get home too.

It's been over 2 months since Case died. We're missing him so much, mostly I think of all the things he'd be doing by now. We still have so much ahead of us. All those firsts, his first Easter in just a couple weeks, my first mother's day as a mom who has lost a child...it's a long road. I just started reading the book Empty Cradle, Broken Heart. It says that when you lose a baby, you mourn the future so much, watching him grow up, the family vacations, the holidays. As soon as I got pregnant I started imagining our family as a family of four, my thoughts, expectations, dreams only grew from there. When he was born and we found out he was a boy, as he grew and turned into his own little person with such a unique personality. A baby gives you so much to look forward to, all of that was taken away so quickly.

I've grieved the loss of my mom, that was so hard, it still is. Grieving the loss of my child is different. There are things I never experienced when my mom died that I am experiencing now. The thing you can pray most for me right now is my fears, that God can meet me in these fears that my mind is coming up with. That I would trust God and not fight or wrestle with these fears, just trust. I won't go into a lot of explanation, and no I am not going crazy :) My mind, my body has suffered a huge loss, a scary loss and I am simply reacting to that.

Lane's First T-ball Game

Lane had his first game last Saturday. It was absolutely hilarious! No matter where the ball went, all the kids ran after it, except for the two girls on the team, they were talking. Reese is helping coach so that is really cool for Lane. His team is the Red Sox, there uniforms are adorable!

Lane running to home.
Of course the team cheer!

They had practice today. I was helping field the balls while the kids practice hitting. I'm not one for bragging about my kid, but he's got some heat behind those balls he's hitting! His little stance is so "professional" too.

It's times like those t-ball games that help me get through. I was laughing my head off and was so proud of Lane and the great kid he is. He's been through so much in his short 5 years and I am so proud and relieved that he is doing so well. He hasn't talked a whole lot about his sadness, but today he told me twice that he was feeling pretty sad. He misses having a little brother and he's said before that he's "alone" now. Poor little guy. Praying that he can get through this in a healthy way. I am still feeling so good about our decision to take him out of school. He hasn't asked once to go back and I know the best place for him right now is with mom and dad!
